There are very few moments in DeviantArt history where an artist will come along who does not simply create art, but creates worlds. There is no artist I can think of with more polished a craft and such unique and intense vision than randis. Every image he paints is a story that unfolds as your eyes wander across his canvas, your jaw dropping in awe of the energy his scenes pulse with. Go ZETAMAN GO is perhaps one of his finest works. There is a vivid and undeniable sense of action and purpose in this image; from the falling rain which is in perpendicular counterpoint to the suited-up Yakuza-style, sword wielding thugs rushing at a mysterious and enigmatic protagonist. Our attention is directed toward the suitcase the bandaged/masked hero is wearing, a clever MacGuffin which allows the viewer to create his or her own story and tale in a world so already richly detailed and illustrated.
Perhaps most remarkable is the environment itself, which hearkens back to old Shaw Brothers films while maintaining a raunchy neo-urban flavor reminiscent of Bangkok Dangerous and From Paris With Love. The scene is simultaneously oriental and occidental; it appears as though a brawl is occuring in a downtown Asian slum while the enemies and passersby are seemingly Caucasian. The disrupted fruit stand further adds to the chaos and movement in the picture, and the light flare is perfectly located to accent the connecting of the hero's attack to his opponent's body. The coloration is fabulous, and the overall execution and originality of this deviation is nothing less than sublime. This is truly a triumph that should not be left out of any favorites collection.
